The numbers below use the initial worked inputs. They are a teaching case; changing the calculator updates its result above, while this worked example remains fixed.
| Measure | Calculation or scope | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Cash available above the floor | Unrestricted cash − protected balance | $45,000.00 |
| Monthly cash burn | Cash payments − cash receipts | $7,000.00 |
| Approximate runway | Usable cash ÷ positive constant burn | 6.428571 months |
The default is approximately 6.428571 months, displayed as 6.4 months. It is not a promise of seven fully funded months. Even flow within each month is assumed; a dated collection delay or large payment can bring the floor forward.
Calculations retain full input precision. Displayed amounts are rounded. Continue with the related planning guide and worksheet →
Read the result within its limits
Cash has already been measured after any opening payments you have made. This constant-flow illustration is not a monthly forecast: it ignores timing within a month, changing sales, seasonality and exceptional payments unless reflected in your inputs.
Include debt service, taxes, inventory purchases and necessary capital spending in payments when the question is how long the bank balance will last. A non-burning example has no finite runway under these assumptions; it does not prove long-term solvency.
